Garden Project
Inspired by a community garden in Canada, and after teaching the kids about the four soils in Matthew, Pastor Joel asked the children if they would like to establish a food garden! The answer was a resounding yes! Plans were made and the French door garden principle was used. Each child was allocated a door size plot of ground that was marked out with lime and a frame. Next came launch day when friends were invited to help the kids dig and plant!
Planting was exciting and fun but also hard work! There were 50 gardens established and children were really excited!
Thank you to Parklane Spar for supplying the cake and cooldrink, we were very thirsty and hungry at "tea time"
Compost was added after the garden's were prepared and it was great to have Uncle Mark helping out.
Each child recieved a variety of 16 seedlings and then it was time for planting! Cabbage and spinach were the most popular.
Aunty Dawn putting fertilizer into the holes with eager gardeners learning new concepts!
Proud gardeners with donated equipment.
After a few weeks the results were evident and the kids were so excited! Plans are afoot to extend the garden to 70 plots! Swings and a jungle gym have been erected inside the garden and the perimeter has been secured and access is controlled.
The children were very happy when a generous sponsor paid for swings to be erected inside the garden.
